Joint Fluid Therapy

Non-surgical knee pain treatment

Your pain relief starts here

When you have knee pain it can take over your life, removing you from the activities you love. Osteoarthritis is the most common cause of knee pain and is characterized by progressive damage to your joint cartilage caused by chronic inflammation inside the joint.  Symptoms of knee osteoarthritis include stiffness, tenderness, swelling, and pain with activity.

The Reflex knee treatment program

The providers at Reflex Knee Specialists offer an advanced non-surgical treatment plan to address chronic knee pain. A treatment that many of our patients benefit from is joint fluid therapy, also known as viscosupplementation. The procedure involves injecting a synthetic gel into the joint which relieves knee pain and increases joint mobility by reducing inflammation and improving the quality of joint fluid in your knee joint. This innovative, non-surgical procedure only takes a few minutes and is covered by Medicare and most insurance plans.

Joint Fluid Therapy

Why joint fluid therapy works

Our comprehensive knee treatment program often incorporates a series of weekly treatments (typically 3-4 injections over the course of about a month) of hyaluronic acid. This natural substance is already found in the synovial fluid in your knee and loses its cushioning and protective qualities due to osteoarthritis.  This treatment helps to cushion, lubricate and protect your knees. To ensure accuracy in delivering the hyaluronic acid into the joint space, all our injections are guided by ultrasound.

Most patients receive a series of injections once or twice a year to maintain increased mobility and pain management.

Unlike short-term steroid treatments, hyaluronic acid supports long-lasting knee health and can help you avoid knee replacement and get long-term relief from knee pain.
