Suffering from a knee injury? Recovering from a recent surgery? Consider this: Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) is a way of treating pain by applying frequency specific electrical currents to an injured part of the body. It helps treat pain by improving cell communication and increasing the production of cell energy needed for tissue repair. To simplify, our body is comprised of trillions of cells. These cells communicate between each other to organize, monitor, and regulate a “stable state” within the body. Tissues, such as muscle, tendons, and ligaments, are made up of cells. When factors such as injury, inflammation, repetitive and/or emotional stress occur, there is an alteration of our cell’s stable state, resulting in the communication between cells to be disrupted… FSM helps to restore order to the cell’s communication system. Research shows that microcurrent also increases ATP production and reduces inflammation. ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is a high energy molecule that stores and moves the energy we need to do just about everything, whether you are moving or thinking about moving. It is present in every cell. Increased ATP production yields increased cell energy needed for tissue repair. FSM is similar to TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation), however, FSM delivers current in millionths instead of thousandths of an ampere. These microcurrents can be calibrated to deliver the specific amperage, or frequency, that each tissue type, condition or injury best responds to. The current is the same level of current that the body itself produces in every cell and tissue and therefore cannot be felt. What does all of this mean for you? Healing from the inside out. There are frequencies that seem to change the way in which cells communicate, increasing tissue repair, specifically in a tissue that seems “stuck” in a state of chronic inflammation. Whether you recently injured your knee or you just got out of surgery, FSM can be used to reduce pain, reduce inflammation, and restore normal motion and function. In conjunction with FSM, exercise is prescribed to assure proper knee alignment, avoid undue strain, and strengthen the muscles surrounding the knee joint. On some occasions, FSM is even used during exercise to release scar tissue and improve mobility. Staying hydrated is probably the most important thing you can do to make an FSM treatment effective. After all, the amount of water in the human body ranges from 50-75%. Ideally, you should have 1-2 quarts of water in the 3-4 hours prior to treatment. By: Jodie Adams, PT, DPT – New Heights Physical Therapy Interested in learning more? Call New Heights Physical Therapy to see if FSM is the right treatment for you.You can also visit the Frequency Specific Microcurrent founder’s website at: www.frequencyspecific.com. What are some of the conditions that Microcurrent Therapy can treat?Achilles TendonitisAdhesionsBack PainBell’s PalsyBone FracturesCarpel Tunnel SyndromeChronic Regional Pain SyndromeConcussionDisk InjuriesFibromyalgiaFibrosisFracturesFrozen ShoulderHeadachesJoint Pain/InstabilityMyofascial PainOsteoarthritisNeuromuscular Pain/InflammationNerve injuriesPeripheral NeuropathyPost-Surgery PainReflexive Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD)Scar TissueSciaticaSpinal Disc PainSports InjuriesSprains/StrainsTMJ PainTennis ElbowWhiplash InjuriesWound Healing (as related to surgical incision)"},{"@context":"https://schema.org/","@type":"BreadcrumbList
@type":"ListItem
{"@type":"ListItem
